Why Is Visiting a General Dentist So Important?

Of all the types of medical practitioners out there, a general dentist is the one you should see most often. Unlike other visits to a doctor’s office, the main purpose of going to a dentist is to prevent issues from arising down the road.

Seeing your general dentist regularly helps ensure that your teeth and mouth stay healthy, which is an incredibly important part of your overall health.

Regular trips  to the dentist prevents issues like tooth decay and loss, gum disease, and chronic bad breath. Besides that, we help keep your smile looking great for life!

Do You Still Need To Go To a General Dentist If Your Teeth Feel Fine?

Even if you don’t feel like your teeth have any issues, you should still get a general dental check-up regularly to have them examined and cleaned by a professional dentist.

It’s very common for people not to notice when they have dental problems and a general dentist can spot and prevent issues before they turn into bigger, more painful problems.

How Often Do You Need To Get a Dental Check-Up?

No matter how old you are, you should get a regular dental check-up and tooth cleaning every six months.

If you have dental issues or poor oral health, we may recommend that you come in more frequently. But, if you have generally healthy teeth and gums, twice a year is enough.

To maintain good oral hygiene and prevent unnecessary trips to our office, brush your teeth at least twice a day for at least two minutes. This gets rid of bacteria that damages the enamel on your teeth.

Additionally, you should floss at least once a day to get rid of food bits and bacteria between your teeth.

Try to avoid foods with lots of sugar and always brush your teeth after you eat sticky foods, which can get caught between your teeth.

When Should Kids Start Going To a Dentist?

If you have kids, take them for their first general dental check-up when they’re between six months and one year old.

Our dentist will examine your child’s baby teeth to ensure they’re healthy and coming in properly. After their first visit, bring your child in to see us every six months.
